FAQ

What exactly is the point of the group?

In short, the purpose of the Wayne State University Linux User Group is to support and promote the use of Linux, UNIX and other Open Source technologies at Wayne State University and the surrounding community. Additionally, the group provides for a network of communication among interested people at Wayne State. Our membership spans a wide variety, everything from undergrads to employees to professionals in the area with no other connection to the university. The one thing in common is an interest in our field, and the group allows them all to interact whereas they probably never otherwise would have met.

Can you guys help me install Linux?

Sure thing. Just use the IRC channel or the mailing list (or any of the other methods listed below) to get in touch with us, and ask. We're more than happy to help get you started.

Can I join the group?

Please do. University requirements force us to limit our membership to 80% students, so if you're not a student, there might be minor complications, but we'll never turn anyone away from participating. The only difference between being an "official member" and not, really, is voting.

How can I keep in contact?

The obvious way is the mailing list, or the IRC channel, but we also have a presence on the web in other places, too:
